I've saved the word doc as a text file, set up a table in Access to receive it in a memo field, then used the ' External data' wizard to choose 'text file'.

In the wizard I've chosen delimited text and the character to delimit the sections of the text I would like as separate records. The source doc is pages. At the finish I'd like each record to be a copy of each section of the original document accepting the limitations of reducing it to Plain Text. I should add that 'line breaks' are necessary to properly structure the text.

Help me here, do the section of text actually include that pipe character? Is that how the WORD doc delimited them? And then try to import that into your Access table. If that doesn't produce the desired result, you will end up importing the text file a line at a time and deciding whether to append it to an existing record or to start a new record.

This does give discrete records. The trick in Excel is then to go back into the records and do 'find and replace', reinstating the para marks. Haven't got that to work yet, but do have individual records. It does seem like a bit of a hassle to sort it all out, but when you have the bits and pieces identified you can probably implement a procedure to automate it for future use.
